Magnolia x soulangeana ‘Alexandrina’, commonly known as Saucer Magnolia, is a stunning hybrid magnolia renowned for its large, cup-shaped flowers that bloom in early spring before the leaves emerge. This deciduous tree or large shrub features uniquely broad, saucer-like blossoms in soft shades of pink and white, often marked with deeper pink hues, creating a dramatic and fragrant floral display. Originating from a cross between Magnolia denudata and Magnolia liliiflora in the early 19th century, ‘Alexandrina’ is celebrated for its vigorous growth, adaptability to various soil types, and tolerance of urban conditions, making it a popular choice in ornamental landscaping. The plant’s attractive oval-shaped foliage turns yellowish-green in autumn, adding seasonal interest beyond its floral show. Recognized by horticultural experts for its ornamental value, the Saucer Magnolia ‘Alexandrina’ has become a staple in temperate gardens, admired for bringing early spring color and elegance to landscapes.
