Description
Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Oakann1588’ Lil’ Annie Oakleaf™ Portfolio Hydrangea is a compact selection of the North American native oakleaf hydrangea bred to provide improved uniformity, heavier flowering, strong stems, and excellent landscape performance in smaller gardens. This deciduous shrub typically matures at about 3–4 feet tall and wide, producing abundant cone-shaped white flower clusters that gradually age through pink tones to deep rosy-red. Its distinctive oak-shaped foliage develops rich burgundy-bronze to deep red fall color earlier than many traditional oakleaf hydrangeas, extending seasonal interest well beyond bloom time. The cultivar was introduced through the Star® Roses and Plants/Bloomables® program as a modern improvement on classic oakleaf hydrangeas, with reports of improved disease resistance, reliable blooming, and strong garden performance. It has been recognized within the nursery industry for its enhanced crop uniformity, superior flower production, and improved resistance to common production issues compared to older compact oakleaf hydrangea cultivars.
